Khaberni - In a sharp intervention under the dome of the parliament, MP Huda Nafa responded to what MP Ahmad Humaisat raised about the statements of one of the general secretaries of political parties, confirming that reading headlines in a fragmented manner is entirely different from understanding the content of the political dialogue that was discussed, requesting not to confuse the issues.
Nafa stated that Jordan is a resilient democratic state that protects its political plurality by law, fortifies its constitutional institutions, and refuses to involve them in any temporary disputes, noting that the constitutional life in the kingdom is stable and established, and Jordan's democratic position is indeed established, not just by slogans, as acknowledged by local and international observers.
Nafa added that the authority to dissolve the House of Representatives is an exclusive prerogative of His Majesty the King, and there is no debate about it, but anything else is “a normal political dialogue that is put on the table”, requesting not to mix the core of the open political discussion with the clear constitutional powers.
She affirmed that some tried to provoke the House of Representatives and undermine its role by claiming that it is closest to the decision-making institution, questioning: "Isn't the House of Representatives an integral part of the constitutional chain and a prominent player in national decision making?"
Nafa concluded by emphasizing that the Jordanian state is strong, resilient, and firmly rooted in its democracy, and that its institutions operate with transparency and integrity, calling for respecting the dialogue and not misreading the statements nor overloading them with unintended implications.
Humaisat attacked the statements issued by one of the general secretaries of the parties, describing them as “surprising and objectionable”, after he addressed an issue related to the constitutional powers of His Majesty the King regarding the House of Representatives and its duration.
Humaisat said during an intervention under the dome of the parliament today, Monday, that the discussion on whether to maintain or dissolve the House of Representatives is not the jurisdiction of any party, affirming that this matter is “an absolute royal constitutional prerogative that must not be touched or discussed”, pointing out that the constitution is clear and explicit in this regard.
