Khaberni - Local Administration Minister Walid Al-Masry revealed the training of about two thousand municipal staff on internal audit operations in the municipalities, also disclosing the allocation of about 5 million dinars for the computerization of municipal services.

In response to parliamentary inquiries on Monday, the minister indicated that the number of audit units in municipalities has increased to 81, stating that work is ongoing to train other personnel according to the Audit Bureau standards to include all municipalities.

Al-Masry explained that some small municipalities could not establish audit units due to limited staff, noting that central units will be established in the provinces for those municipalities.

He said that "many violations" related to financial spending in municipalities have been transferred to the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission.

Al-Masry confirmed that the government allocated 5 million dinars to launch the completion of the computerization project (after the cancellation of a grant designated for the project), to computerize municipal services comprehensively including; acquisitions, warehouses, stores, financial system, and human resources.

He clarified that the project will include computerizing 45-60 municipal services to be available online.
