Khaberni - The public security directorate spokesperson stated that the anti-narcotics department, after two months of monitoring, investigation, and information gathering, managed to thwart an attempt to smuggle 1.2 million drug pills to a neighboring country after they were hidden in a secret compartment built into the body of a heavy vehicle in preparation for shipment with the drugs to the neighboring state.

In detail: The spokesperson confirmed that about two months ago, the anti-narcotics department received information about a group of individuals planning and preparing to execute a major drug smuggling operation.

He added that since then, several teams were formed to follow up on this information and verify it. These teams monitored and gathered information about the suspects and those against whom information had been received.

He continued that through the investigations and surveillance operations, it became clear that the suspects purchased a heavy vehicle (roller) and transferred it to a warehouse in Russeifa district, and immediately began moving quantities of drugs into the warehouse in stages.

The spokesperson confirmed that yesterday, after completing all investigations and verifying all information and transferring all the drugs to the warehouse, five teams raided the warehouse site and several other locations where the individuals involved in the case were present at the same time.

He explained that during the raid inside the warehouse, the heavy vehicle and a number of individuals involved in the case were apprehended, while other teams arrested the rest of the individuals involved at their locations. In all the raids, ten individuals involved in the case were arrested.

The vehicle was transferred to the anti-narcotics department and upon inspection there, 1.2 million drug pills were found inside a secretly constructed hideout within it, and the investigations are still ongoing in preparation for referring the case to the public prosecutor of the State Security Court.
