Khaberni - CNN reported on Sunday, citing a source, that Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro confirmed during informal talks with American officials his readiness to step down from office after 18 months.
According to the channel, Maduro's administration reached out to representatives of the US President Donald Trump with the aim of establishing dialogue between the two countries. It was noted that some American officials found such a resignation proposal acceptable, to resolve the conflict between Caracas and Washington.
However, the White House, despite this, eventually insisted on the need for the Venezuelan president to immediately step down.
On November 29, US President Donald Trump announced on the social media platform "Truth Social" the closure of airspace over Venezuela. Washington accuses Venezuelan authorities of falling short in combating drug trafficking.
The US Navy deployed a carrier strike group led by the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford as well as a nuclear-powered submarine, and more than 16,000 military personnel in the Caribbean Sea.
Since September, US forces have sunk at least 20 fast boats in the region, resulting in the deaths of more than 80 people.
American media has frequently speculated about the possibility of the United States soon launching strikes on Venezuelan territory.
On November 27, Trump stated that Washington would "very soon" begin combatting drug trafficking from Venezuela, but he did not provide details about the potential military operations.
