Khaberni - Seven international organizations have called for the swift enforcement of arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court against Israeli occupation leaders for their responsibility in committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
The organizations, in a statement on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which falls on November 29th each year, endorsed the measures announced by the International Court of Justice pursuant to the lawsuit filed against Israel.
They demanded "the swift enforcement of the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court against the occupation leaders for their responsibility in committing the war crime of using starvation as a method of warfare, in addition to crimes against humanity including premeditated killing, persecution, and other inhumane acts."
The organizations emphasized that "lasting peace cannot be achieved without fully ending it, and bringing its leaders to justice."
The organizations that signed the statement are:
Al Karama for Human Rights- Geneva.
Victims of Torture Association- Geneva.
Al Shehab Center for Human Rights- London.
Free Voice Organization for Human Rights- Paris.
FIDH International- Belgium.
Adaleh Foundation for Human Rights- Istanbul.
Solidarity for Human Rights- Geneva.
In November 2024, the court in The Hague issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of committing crimes against humanity and war crimes in Gaza.
A Continuing Disaster
The organizations stated that this International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People comes amid a fragile truce that has not yet ended the humanitarian disaster facing over two million people in the Gaza Strip.
They clarified that the people of Gaza are still deprived of the most basic necessities of life including food, water, healthcare, electricity, and shelter, at a time when hundreds of thousands live outdoors amidst rubble after entire neighborhoods were leveled to the ground due to intense Israeli bombing.
Since October 10th, last year, a ceasefire agreement in Gaza took effect after it was signed between Hamas and Israel, as part of a plan by US President Donald Trump regarding ending the war in Gaza.
The Israeli genocide in Gaza since October 7th, 2023 has left more than 70,000 martyrs and about 171,000 wounded Palestinians, most of them children and women, and massive destruction with a rebuilding cost estimated by the United Nations at around 70 billion dollars.
The occupation is the cause of suffering
The international organizations stated that "mere solidarity and routine events are no longer effective in the face of the continuing Israeli occupation and its repressive policies, as the occupation is the root cause of the suffering of the Palestinian people."
They reported that the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People "is not merely a symbolic occasion, but it is a global call to renew the ethical and legal commitment towards a people facing the worst forms of occupation, killing, and siege for decades."
Human rights organizations emphasized that "true solidarity begins with condemning the violations, working hard to end impunity, and supporting the Palestinians' right to establish their fully sovereign state, end the occupation, and live with dignity and security on their land."
They confirmed that what has been witnessed in the Palestinian territories, especially in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, represents "a complete genocide according to the definition in the 1948 Genocide Convention, and requires urgent and binding international action."
They called for "the necessity for governments around the world and international bodies to play their role in pressuring the Israeli occupation authorities to respect international humanitarian law, stop targeting civilians, and allow the immediate and unconditional entry of humanitarian aid and rescue teams into the Gaza Strip without restrictions."
The international organizations also called for "supporting the UN efforts to organize solidarity events, including the annual exhibition for Palestinian rights, highlighting the crimes committed against them, and encouraging countries to provide extensive media coverage for this occasion."
They reiterated the "right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, to establish their independent state over the entire Palestinian territory with its capital as Jerusalem, as an inalienable right that does not expire with time."
