Khaberni - Yusuf Al-Shawarbeh, head of the Amman Municipality committee, responded to urgent issues concerning residents of the capital, focusing on the challenges of traffic congestion and the municipality's plans for investment and money saving.

Al-Shawarbeh attributed the traffic congestions to several factors, most notably the increase in the number of private vehicles in the absence of a comprehensive and integrated transport system, alongside the inadequate capacity of the infrastructure and drivers' behavior.

He emphasized that the Traffic Law was established to protect the lives of Jordanians and not for revenue collection, affirming that the cameras represent a comprehensive electronic monitoring system to detect violations and announcing the upcoming launch of a new project to manage parking in Amman for investment purposes.

Al-Shawarbeh revealed various slimming and investment plans. In the field of waste management, he confirmed that a 10-year partnership contract with private companies would save the municipality 170 million dinars, and provide at least 2500 job opportunities in the first half of next year. In the context of cost-saving, the municipality has initiated the installation of 32,000 energy-saving lighting units.

Al-Shawarbeh announced incentives for regularization, such as offering a 75% discount to building violators in return for submitting engineering plans to ensure building safety.

He also confirmed that the municipality will work on upgrading traditional markets to be more modern.

Financially, he assured that retirees' rights are protected and that their entitlements will be paid daily to those with pending paperwork before the committees, noting a significant pressure on the salary bill.

Regarding the Umrah City project, Al-Shawarbeh denied any administrative ties with it as it is located outside the municipality's borders, but confirmed coordination for connecting services and transport networks.
