Khaberni - Officials reported that more than 600 people have died due to floods and landslides resulting from heavy rain in Southeast Asia.

Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand experienced widespread destruction after a rare tropical storm formed in the Strait of Malacca, leading to a week of heavy rainfall and strong winds. Indonesia recorded 435 deaths, Thailand 170, and Malaysia 3.

Rescue and aid officials in the Southeast Asia region are still trying to reach many areas affected by the floods this Sunday, even as the waters recede and tens of thousands of people in the three countries are evacuated.

Official statistics indicate that more than 4 million people have been affected, nearly 3 million in southern Thailand and 1.1 million in western Indonesia.

Separately, on the other side of the Bay of Bengal, 153 people died due to a cyclone in Sri Lanka, according to authorities there. The number of missing persons reached 191, while more than half a million people suffered damage across the island.
