Bank of Jordan continued its efforts aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability, through organizing a volunteering event to plant 500 fruiting and long-lasting olive trees in the Giza area – south of Amman, in cooperation with the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature as part of the “Green Caravan” program.
This initiative is a continuation of the strategic partnership that has united Bank of Jordan and the association for over ten years, in the framework of supporting low-income farmers and agricultural communities in areas prone to desertification, as part of its contribution to the “Green Caravan” program which aims to expand the green area, increase local agricultural production, and enhance food security. The program has contributed to planting over 234,000 fruit trees in various regions of the kingdom.
The Bank’s participation in this program, whether through financial support or through the actual participation of its employees in tree planting, reflects its increasing commitment to integrating concepts of sustainability, environmental, social, and institutional governance (ESG) in its operations, and its focus on reducing carbon emissions by supporting initiatives that increase plant cover and enhance the capabilities of agricultural communities to face the effects of climate change. Additionally, planting fruit trees helps provide additional income sources for small farmers, enhancing their economic capacity in line with the Bank’s social and developmental goals.
The event saw broad participation from the bank employees who volunteered in planting the saplings and supporting the farmers in the field, a step that reflects the spirit of initiative, environmental and social responsibility among the team, enhances the culture of volunteering among them, and supports the increasing rates of their participation in environmental and community activities that the bank adopts annually.
The bank continues to expand its role in environmental and social action through sustainable initiatives, believing in the pivotal role of the banking sector in supporting the transition towards a green economy and contributing to building a more sustainable future for the coming generations.
