Khaberni - Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar harshly criticized the Irish authorities regarding the Dublin City Council's decision to rename Herzog Park, named in honor of Israel's sixth president, Chaim Herzog.

The Israeli minister stated that Dublin has become a global capital of anti-Semitism.

Previously, the Dublin City Council decided to remove the Herzog name, the father of the current Israeli president Isaac Herzog, from a park in the Rathgar area called "Herzog Park". Meanwhile, Israeli website Ynet reported that pro-Palestine activists in Dublin are seeking to rename the park "Free Palestine Park".

Minister Saar wrote on the social media platform X: "Dublin has become a global capital of anti-Semitism. Ireland's obsession with anti-Semitism and Israel is disgusting and repulsive. The Dublin City Council decided to remove the name of Chaim Herzog, the sixth president of Israel who grew up in Dublin and whose father was the Chief Rabbi of Ireland, from one of the city's parks. What cannot ever be erased is the shame represented by Ireland's obsession with anti-Semitism and hostility towards Israel."

The minister said that his decision to close the Israeli embassy in Dublin a year ago was the most correct and just decision.

In December 2024, Saar announced the closure of his country's embassy in Ireland due to "its actions and anti-Semitic speeches."

This step was taken following the Irish leadership's decision to join a South African lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, accusing Israel of committing "genocide" in the Gaza Strip, and before that, the Israeli ambassador was withdrawn from Dublin after the Irish authorities recognized the state of Palestine.
