Khaberni - The Department of Statistics announced the addition of 3.6 billion dinars to the Gross Domestic Product, following a comprehensive review of the national accounts that lasted four years, implemented with technical support from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia and the International Monetary Fund.

The statistics confirmed that this review aimed to enhance the accuracy and reliability of economic data, and to adhere to the best international methodologies and practices in preparing national accounts. As part of the updating process, the base year was updated to 2023, in line with international standards and classifications, which contributed to improving the accuracy of estimates of the national economy.

The Department of Statistics clarified that the Gross Domestic Product for 2023 has become 39.8 billion dinars after updating the data and expanding the scope of statistical coverage, indicating that the recorded increase came as a result of including economic activities not previously accounted for, especially in the informal sector.

The review also included re-estimating key sectors such as energy, agriculture, manufacturing, extraction, trade, transportation, storage, real estate, and construction, after improving the quality of data and increasing the level of statistical coverage.

The statistics confirmed that this review constitutes a pivotal step in developing the national statistical system and enhances comparability regionally and internationally, in addition to its role in raising the confidence of investors and international financial institutions in the Jordanian economy’s data.
