Khaberni - The police said that four people died after shooting 14 during a family gathering in the city of Stockton in northern California on Saturday evening.
Jason Lee, the deputy mayor of Stockton, said in a post on Facebook that the shooting occurred during a child's birthday party.
He added, "I am in contact... with public safety officials to grasp the details of the incident and I will strive to obtain answers."
The police reported that they received calls before 6:00 PM local time (0200 GMT) about a shooting incident near building number 1900 on Luceille Street in Stockton.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said in a post on site X, "At this time, we confirm that about 14 people were shot and four of them have died."
It added "The investigation is ongoing and the available information remains limited. Initial indications suggest that the incident might have been deliberate and investigators are considering all possibilities."
The authorities did not provide any details about the shooter.
