Khaberni - Xabi Alonso, coach of Real Madrid, responded to statements from Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who asserted that "Los Blancos" are obsessed with Barcelona, describing them as "populist messages aimed at his fans."

Laporta's statements came in response to those made by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who linked Barcelona's most successful periods to the "Negreira affair", which involves payments Barcelona made to companies owned by José María Enriquez Negreira, the former vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees belonging to the Spanish Football Federation.
Laporta said: "Perez's statements indicate the obsession with Barcelona that Madrid suffers from, it seems they need to talk about Barcelona to justify something I'm unaware of."

When Alonso was asked about these statements, he said at the press conference held today, Saturday before Sunday's La Liga match against Girona: "These are populist messages that resonate with their fans... We focus on our game, what matters is what happens on the field, the fair and deserved win, and each match is a test of that."
