Khaberni - A court in Istanbul issued a verdict to imprison a man for one year and six months after he was convicted of assaulting his daughter "3 years old," which resulted in her falling from the building's staircase and sustaining injuries, in an incident that caused widespread outrage in Turkey following the spread of a video documenting the incident.

Camera recordings showed that the father kicked his daughter in the back while she stood at the entrance of the building, causing her to lose her balance, collide with the stairs, and slide downward.

According to the details of the session held at the Criminal Court in Istanbul, the accused claimed that he did not intend to harm his daughter, saying to the court: "I was trying to prevent her from falling, I just extended my foot a little, but she slipped down the stairs, I have ten children, and if I didn't love my children, I would not have had them."
The victim's lawyer and the Ministry of Family's lawyer demanded the imposition of the maximum penalties against the father, asserting that the act constitutes a clear assault on a child unable to defend themselves.

After hearing the defense, the court decided to convict the accused of "simple assault on a person incapable of physically and mentally protecting themselves" and sentenced him to prison for one year and six months.

The incident sparked widespread controversy on platforms in Turkey and the Arab world, where many expressed shock at the scenes captured on surveillance cameras, commenting that "the penalty is not sufficient" given the assault on a girl, while others called for stricter penalties in domestic violence cases.
