Khaberni - Thousands of citizens demonstrated on Friday in Hadramout governorate, demanding the classification of the Reform Party, the Yemeni branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, as a terrorist organization, following the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump about the initiation of procedures to classify several branches of the group in the region as terrorist organizations.
The protesters raised slogans calling on the Yemeni government to make a similar decision, considering that the Reform Party had been behind security and political tensions experienced by southern and Yemeni governorates in recent years, especially in Abyan and Hadramout.
The demonstrators called on the government for an "urgent official action" to review the group's security and legal files and to impose measures preventing any political or military activities that could destabilize the liberated governorates.
The organizers of the event affirmed that the recent U.S. decision represents "an opportunity to re-evaluate the dangers of the group in Yemen," calling on the international community to support similar steps at the local level.
