Khaberni - A massive fire erupted today, Friday, inside "Studio Misr" in the famous Mariouteya area in Giza, causing widespread alarm within the art sector, after the flames devoured the set of "The King" series starring Mohamed Imam, scheduled to be aired in the Ramadan drama season of 2026.
According to Egyptian media, the civil protection forces received an urgent report indicating the rise of flames and thick black smoke from the heart of the "Studio Misr" building, initiating a broad intervention operation that included dozens of fire trucks rushing to the scene to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjacent buildings.
The rescue teams fought a difficult battle given the active winds, the building's old structure, and its contents of highly flammable materials, which increased the danger of the situation.
The Egyptian authorities have not yet announced any casualties or loss of lives, while firefighting efforts continue to fully control the fire.
At the same time, security agencies began urgent investigations to determine the causes of the fire, while specialized technical committees started to assess the material losses that affected one of Egypt’s most important cinematic landmarks.
The flames rapidly spread inside one of the newly prepared sets for "The King" series, creating a state of shock and astonishment among the crew, who were preparing to resume filming tomorrow morning.
The author of the work, Mohamed Salah Al-Azab, confirmed the accuracy of the information circulated about the fire, explaining that the flames have been burning since the moment they ignited inside the studio, and that no one knows the cause of the disaster yet.
He pointed out that the civil defense teams are exerting intensive efforts to control the situation, noting that the extent of the losses will not be clear until the firefighting operations are completed and a full inspection of the filming site is conducted. He added that the production team will devise an alternative plan to continue filming the damaged scenes after accurately assessing the damages.
It is noteworthy that the series "The King" stars alongside Mohamed Imam, Merna Jamil, Hanan Motawie, Amro Abdel Gelil, and Sami Maghawri, under the direction of director Sherine Adel.
"Studio Misr" is one of the most venerable cinematic institutions established in the mid-twentieth century and has hosted over the decades hundreds of works that shaped the history of drama and cinema in Egypt and the Arab world.
