Wasfi AlTal The Knight Who Dismounted
Author: العميد الدكتور زيد حمادنه

Khaberni - On the anniversary of Wasfi's martyrdom... we summon a manliness that does not repeat, and the purity of a leader who lived for an idea and died for it, opening the gate of nostalgia, and awakening a manliness that was and still is a school unto itself.

A man in whom were embodied the nobility of the sword, the purity of heart, and the firmness of stance... such that Jordan came to resemble him in its stubbornness, in its patience, and in its ability to stand no matter how intense the darkness became.

Wasfi was not a position nor a title... he was the conscience of a nation and the memory of a people, and a symbol whose dignity still lives in the hearts...

He was a knight who walked the paths of the nation as a lover walks to his beloved; without hesitation, without fear, without calculations...

He was a voice when other voices were hushed, and steadiness when souls trembled, and a bell that rang whenever someone tried to extinguish the light of truth.

He knew that the love for the homeland is not to be spoken... but lived.
And that manliness is a stance before it is words, and that martyrdom is a fate given only to those who are true to their pledge.

And Wasfi remains steadfast in the consciousness of the Jordanians, growing more present with each passing year.
And on this day, a song that has resided in the consciousness from childhood, with a voice every Jordanian knows, whispers:
The doves cooed back and forth,
And noble horses lined up row by row,
I say, my friend, enough of reproach,
And oh you with gentle eyelashes, sing of Wasfi,
Sing of the knight who never failed his nation,
Sing of the man who remained a symbol of courage, honesty, and belonging,
Of the dream that left in body... but remained a nation in the chests of men,
Sing of Wasfi who walked the streets and was trusted by Jordanians without question,
And who carried the burden of the nation on his shoulders as though he was the dutiful son, the caring father, and the older brother,
Sing of he who provided a global example studied in politics and reform, when prisoners carried him on their shoulders...
Sing of Wasfi who was carried by Jordan on the day he departed as heroes are carried...
A funeral where there was not only weeping, but a silent oath that the flag of the nation remain high no matter how fierce the October winds...

Wasfi Al-Tal...
Not merely a memory, but a Jordanian love story that courses through the blood...
Passed down from generation to generation as a mother passes down her ululations,
And as a father imparts to his children the meaning of dignity and grandeur.

May God have mercy on Wasfi...
And make his grave light, his memory an honor,
And make from Jordan, which he loved... a homeland befitting his loyalty.

Jordan will remain a great, kind, blessed homeland with its people and land, a truthful Arab Islamic face, a title for all good... with its aware Hashemite leadership, its valiant armed forces, its vigilant security forces, and the cohesion of its internal front.
