Khaberni - In response to the controversy that has spread across social media platforms in Egypt in the last few hours, writer and critic Ola El Shafei, a member of the Drama Committee of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, has denied the correctness of the news circulated regarding new decisions or instructions targeting drama producers before the Ramadan 2026 drama season, confirming that such information is completely untrue.
El Shafei clarified in a post on her official Facebook account that the Drama Committee has not held any meetings recently, and therefore, it has not issued any recommendations or decisions related to upcoming drama productions.
She emphasized that when the committee meetings are held, they are limited to exchanging views and ideas related to the development of Egyptian drama, without having the authority to issue binding decisions on drama producers. She confirmed that the only legally authorized body to license scripts and issue permits and approvals is the Censorship of Artistic Works affiliated with the Ministry of Culture.
El Shafei responded to the claims about Egyptian drama being disconnected from reality or straying from societal issues, considering these allegations "illogical," given the unified goal among all industry stakeholders, including writers, directors, producers, and regulatory bodies, to provide content that expresses the Egyptian society and keeps up with its developments.
She concluded her message by saying: "Stay well… safe from the whims of trend and fictitious exclusives, waiting for you during the Ramadan 2026 drama season."
This follows the circulation of a post on social media platforms attributed to the Drama Committee, including several points and directives, among them not promoting drugs or trafficking, avoiding the depiction of marital infidelity, and addressing human organ trafficking issues within a clear awareness framework, which has sparked debate among drama producers and the audience in recent days.
The Drama Committee of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation was formed earlier following criticism by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of the state of Egyptian drama presented during the past Ramadan season in March (March) 2025.
