Khaberni - The UAE withdrew its candidacy on Thursday for hosting the 2031 Asian Cup football finals, as announced by the local federation in a brief statement without mentioning the reasons.
The UAE had previously organized the 1996 and 2019 editions of the tournament.
In April, the Asian Football Confederation announced the submission of 7 bids for hosting rights, including the UAE, Australia, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Kuwait, and a joint bid from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the president of the continental federation, proposed to vote on hosting the 2031 and 2035 editions of the Asian Cup at the same time after 7 bids (a record number) expressed their desire to host the 2031 edition.
The Asian Cup, which features 24 teams, takes place every 4 years, and the next tournament will be held in Saudi Arabia in 2027.
Qatar hosted the most recent edition of the tournament in early 2024, after China withdrew from organizing it.
