Khaberni - American "CBS News" reported today, Thursday, citing law enforcement officials, that the suspect in the shooting incident near the White House is a 29-year-old Afghan citizen.

The network noted that the suspect entered the United States in 2021.

Four senior law enforcement sources informed about the investigation told the network that Rahmanullah Lakkanwal was identified as the suspect in the shooting incident.

A relative of the suspect in the shooting of two National Guard members told "NBC News" that Rahmanullah Lakkanwal had served in the Afghan army for ten years alongside U.S. Special Forces before arriving in the United States.

The relative mentioned that Lakkanwal arrived in the United States in September 2021 after the Taliban took over power and later settled in the state of Washington.

The relative, who had served with Lakkanwal and supported U.S. forces, revealed that he spent part of his military service at a base in Kandahar.

He explained that he was injured during his service and said, "We were the ones targeted by the Taliban in Afghanistan. I can't believe he would do this."

The relative also mentioned that Lakkanwal grew up in Khost province and has a wife and five children, but he had not been in touch with him for several months.

Earlier today, West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey announced that two members of the National Guard were injured after being shot near the White House in the U.S. capital, Washington.

The U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, announced that two National Guard members were shot in Washington on Wednesday.

The Washington police reported in a separate statement that a shooting occurred near the White House, adding that the shooting suspect was detained.
