39 Charges Dropped Against Trump for Attempting to Alter 2020 Election Results

Khaberni - A U.S. judge has dropped the charges directed at President Donald Trump and his allies concerning their attempt to change the 2020 presidential election results in the state of Georgia in favor of the Republican president.

U.S. government documents revealed on Wednesday that Attorney General Peter Scandalakis requested the dismissal of the charges, totaling 39, against Trump and a group of his aides, stating that pursuing the case would be "futile".

Scandalakis, who took office earlier this month replacing the former Fulton County Attorney General after her removal last year, wrote, "I realize that given the deep political divisions sweeping our country, this decision will not be widely accepted."

Steve Sadow, Trump's lawyer, welcomed the decision, stating that the case should never have been brought in the first place.

This case was one of four criminal lawsuits Trump faced in the years following his 2020 presidential election loss to Democrat Joe Biden.

Only one case has gone to trial, a New York case related to paying off a pornographic film actress during his 2016 campaign. Trump was convicted in this case, but he requested its dismissal.
