Khaberni - The European Parliament has approved a resolution calling for a minimum age of 16 years for the use of social media platforms, aimed at ensuring "age-appropriate digital interaction" for children and teenagers.

Lawmakers demanded a complete ban on the use of video platforms and social media, as well as apps running on artificial intelligence technologies for those under the age of 13, according to "Reuters".

The decision is based on a draft published last October, demanding the establishment of a uniform European digital age limit at 16 years old, whereby access to the platforms would be banned for those under this age unless they obtain consent from their parents or guardians.

This decision issued by the European Parliament in its current stage is not legally binding and does not impose a direct enforcement policy, but it represents a proposed legislative direction, and supporters of the decision see it as an important step to protect children and teenagers from inappropriate content.
