Khaberni - The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), on Wednesday, said that thousands of forcibly displaced people in the Gaza Strip are struggling to find safe shelter in preparation for the approaching cold weather amidst the fallout from the genocidal war launched by Israel on the enclave for two years.
The agency clarified in a post on the platform "X" that thousands of forcibly displaced people in the Gaza Strip are struggling to find safe shelter in preparation for the cold weather.
The agency added that "the displaced have no choice but to set up primitive tents," noting that "more shelter materials are still needed."
It pointed out that more than 79,000 displaced people live in 85 shelters managed by "UNRWA" in the enclave, amid deteriorating humanitarian conditions as winter approaches.
The spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stéphane Dujarric, warned on Tuesday that Palestinian families displaced in Gaza face the risk of flooding inside poor shelters, affirming that the residents are "highly vulnerable" amidst poor weather conditions, and that the ongoing Israeli restrictions are hindering the entry of vital aid and impeding the work of relief organizations.
A weather depression accompanied by heavy rain yesterday resulted in the flooding of dozens of displaced people's tents in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, amidst warnings of a humanitarian disaster.
Gaza Strip needs about 300,000 tents and prefabricated housing units to meet the basic shelter needs of its residents, after Israel destroyed infrastructure during two years of genocidal conflict.
