Khaberni - The Official Gazette published in a special issue, the amended law for Military Service and Reserve Service, after its approval by both Houses of Parliament, becoming effective from the date of its publication.

The new law introduces significant amendments to the provisions of Military Service and adds new clauses that define new conditions and criteria for requesting postponement or exemption, as well as regulations concerning residency abroad for those covered by the service.

The justifying reasons for "Military Service" aim to organize the provisions related to some emerging legal requirements, to activate and implement the Military Service program, the acceptable cases for its postponement, and to enable the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces - the Arab Army to offer training programs in military centers and institutes for the conscripts, allowing educational institutions to consider it as part of the study requirements for university students according to instructions issued by the Cabinet for this purpose, and also to consider it as part of the requirements and duties of Military Service, alongside abolishing provisions that grant conscripts who complete their service any priority in appointments in ministries, departments, government institutions, and private companies and institutions.

The amended law stipulates that "the General Command shall include the lectures and training programs it deems appropriate in the Military Service program and its duties for the conscripts, held in military centers and institutes in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for the purposes of counting them as part of
the requirements for university and college students' studies."

The amended law also states that a conscripted student accepted into official and private institutes and universities retains his seat in case he is called up for Military Service.

Prime Minister Jafar Hassan confirmed the commencement of the implementation of the Military Service program announced by His Highness the Crown Prince at the beginning of February next year.

The government announced last August the reactivation of Military Service, directed by His Majesty King Abdullah II, His Highness Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, Crown Prince, and monitored by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan.
