Khaberni - The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) said that reconstructing the Gaza Strip would cost more than $70 billion and could take several decades.
The UN agency indicated in a new report released today, Tuesday, that the ongoing Israeli aggression and the restrictions imposed on the region have undermined various essential aspects of life including food, shelter, and health services, driving Gaza into an "abyss of man-made disaster".
It added that the war waged by the Israeli occupation on the Gaza Strip has caused an "unprecedented collapse in the Palestinian economy," especially the economy of Gaza which shrank by 87 percent as the per capita GDP reached only $161, which is the lowest rate in the world.
It emphasized that "the continual and systematic destruction casts doubt on Gaza's ability to rebuild itself as a viable space and community for living".
