Khaberni - Faisal Al-Fayez, President of the Senate, confirmed the depth of Jordanian-Japanese relations, describing them as historical and solid, and indicated that the two friendly nations are connected by strategic relationships built on respect, cooperation, and the serving of mutual interests. He pointed out that there is ongoing coordination and consultation regarding various issues of mutual interest, especially those related to the current conditions in the region.
This came during talks conducted by Al-Fayez on Tuesday, in the Japanese capital Tokyo, with the President of the Japanese House of Councillors Masakazu Sekiguchi, in the presence of the members of the Senate: Ali Al-Ayed, Khawla Al-Armouti, Michelle Nazzal, and Khalil Al-Hajj Tawfiq, as well as the Jordanian Ambassador to Japan, Nasser Al-Sharida, according to a statement from the Senate.
The discussions covered aspects of Jordanian-Japanese relations and ways to enhance them on political, economic, and parliamentary levels, in addition to the current situation in the Middle East, and the necessity for the international community to take mandatory measures requiring the Israeli occupation state to implement all the terms of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Al-Fayez, who is visiting Japan in response to an official invitation from the President of the House of Councillors, mentioned that the multiple visits made by His Majesty King Abdullah II, and the visit by His Royal Highness Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Crown Prince, come within the context of a desire to enhance Jordanian-Japanese relations and build upon them in various fields.
He stated that the cooperative relations between the two friendly nations were crowned in 2018 with an agreement to launch an annual strategic dialogue to discuss mechanisms of developing bilateral relations, coordinating positions on various regional and international issues of mutual interest, and establishing a practical step towards institutionalizing Jordanian-Japanese cooperation, aiming to elevate bilateral relations and achieve higher levels of economic, trade, and investment exchange in various sectors.
Al-Fayez touched on the economic and security challenges faced by Jordan due to conflicts and political crises around it, and the large numbers of Syrian refugees, as well as challenges stemming also from the continuing aggressive and expansionist policies of the Israeli occupation state.
