Khaberni - The General Director of the Income and Sales Tax Department, Hussam Abu Ali, revealed the introduction of electronic monitoring at tobacco factories, which enables tracking of daily production and supplies to the markets.
He mentioned that the electronic monitoring places a dedicated code on cigarette packs distributed to the local markets, aiming to facilitate the process of detecting smuggled cigarettes.
He clarified that the national invoicing system can handle 60 million invoices daily, and it currently receives one million invoices per day.
Abu Ali confirmed that the invoicing system would reduce the size of the shadow economy, indicating that the number of taxpayers registered in the system, including individuals and companies, has reached 150,000.
He added that there are 17,600 taxpayers who have switched to individual status, while the number of taxpayers registered in sales tax is 2,500.
Abu Ali stated that the national invoicing system serves compliant taxpayers and achieves tax fairness and competitiveness.
He indicated that the government is working on projects aimed at improving the efficiency of tax collection, noting the use of artificial intelligence in auditing tax declarations and its role in enhancing the volume of collections.
