Egypt Imprisonment of Fadi Khafaga in a case of defamation against Magdy Kamel

Khaberni - The Economic Court of Cairo in Egypt ruled today, Monday, November 24 (November), to imprison the artist Fadi Khafaga for 6 months, with a fine of 20,000 Egyptian pounds, due to his accusation of insulting and defaming the artist Magdy Kamel, the husband of the artist Maha Ahmed.

Magdy Kamel's defense requested civil compensation of 100,000 Egyptian pounds during the first trial session, as compensation for the damage suffered by his client, due to what he described as public insults issued by Khafaga.

Details of the crisis
This case comes in the context of a series of crises experienced by the Egyptian artist Fadi Khafaga recently, following the decline in his artistic participations and his move towards frequent appearances on the "TikTok" platform, where he used to share details of his daily life with his followers in a way that caused widespread controversy.

The artist Magdy Kamel and his wife, the artist Maha Ahmed, filed an official complaint to the Giza Security Directorate, accusing Fadi Khafaga of mistreatment and disparagement through video clips and posts published on social media, which prompted the competent authorities to take the necessary legal measures and refer him to trial.

The origin of the dispute between Fadi Khafaga and Magdy Kamel
The roots of the dispute between the two parties date back to a live broadcast that gathered Maha Ahmed and Fadi Khafaga on the "TikTok" platform, where public disagreements erupted between them, followed by mutual statements that were considered offensive from both sides, leading to heightened tension and turning into a legal course.

Later, Maha Ahmed announced in media statements that the dispute was no longer confined to the realm of electronic bickering, confirming that she had filed several lawsuits against Fadi Khafaga, including accusations of defamation, slander, and invasion of privacy on social media.

For his part, the artist Magdy Kamel confirmed that he had filed a separate lawsuit against Fadi Khafaga, on the basis of what he described as direct and public abuse, demanding that the necessary legal measures be taken.
