Khaberni - An armed robbery incident occurred on the airport road in Beirut, after two individuals riding a motorcycle executed a kidnapping and robbery operation under the threat of arms, in broad daylight, and in front of passersby.
According to local sources, the two men intercepted a citizen on the road leading to the airport and robbed him of his possessions under threat before fleeing quickly towards an unknown destination, and eyewitnesses documented the scene which occurred within a few minutes.
The security forces are currently reviewing surveillance cameras spread along the road in an attempt to identify the robbers and their escape route.
Security sources confirmed that investigations are still ongoing, and a police force is working on tracking down the suspects, noting that this area is equipped with dozens of cameras that may help in revealing the details of the incident soon.
This incident sparked a wide wave of interaction on social media platforms, where many expressed their anger at the frequency of robberies in broad daylight in vital areas like the airport road. One tweet read: "We've become afraid of walking during the day before the night", while another said: "The airport road should be one of the safest roads… not a stage for robberies."
