Khaberni - Rainwater stormed houses today, Tuesday, in the Tafilah governorate, while roads were partially closed due to flood formation.
Mohammad Al-Kreimeen, the chairman of the Greater Tafilah Municipality Committee said that the rainfall was heavy within an hour, and all areas of the governorate experienced heavy rains.
He added in an intervention on Al-Mamlaka TV that water pools formed due to the culverts not being able to handle the large amount of water, and the sweeping of debris with the water leads to the closure of culvert filters.
He stated that the municipality will take future measures to expand the culverts in hotspots to ensure that these water gatherings do not repeat.
This morning, Tuesday, the Tafilah Works Directorate dealt with landslides on the road to Sanafah in the southern Jordan Valley, resulting from the heavy rains and floods that affected various areas of the governorate.
The rainwater caused the closure of the main road in Wadi Zaid area in the city of Tafilah due to the blockage of drainage manholes, necessitating intervention to pump water and secure traffic safety, forcing drivers to stop and wait for the road to reopen.
The Tafilah Works Directorate stated that field teams equipped with heavy machinery began working from the early morning hours to address the landslides and slips on the road leading to the southern Jordan Valley, and managed to reopen it to traffic after removing the soil and securing the general path to ensure traffic flow, in collaboration with security forces organizing traffic on this vital route.
She referred to sand landslides caused by heavy rainfall which closed a part of the road to traffic, and work was done to reopen it. The landslides on the Jordan Valley road are dangerous to traffic with rainfall, due to its complex topography, according to many road users.
Tafilah experienced heavy thundershowers which led to the formation of floods and soil erosion in several locations, in addition to water pooling in some traffic segments, while the relevant authorities indicated that all roads within the governorate were passable and had been dealt with to facilitate traffic movement.
The main operations rooms in the Tafilah Governorate stated that official agencies implemented an emergency plan for handling the weather conditions on the ground, by monitoring the situation around the clock.
