Including Jordan Trump Signs Historic Order to Designate Muslim Brotherhood Branches as Terrorist Organizations

Khaberni - U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to begin the process of designating some branches of the Muslim Brotherhood as "foreign terrorist organizations".

The executive order states "This order initiates a process by which some branches or subdivisions of the Muslim Brotherhood are considered foreign terrorist organizations", specifically mentioning the Muslim Brotherhood branches in Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon.

The executive order notes that these branches "commit, facilitate, or support violence and campaigns of destabilization that harm their regions, U.S. citizens, and U.S. interests". The White House stated that "President Trump is confronting the transnational network of the Muslim Brotherhood, which feeds terrorism and campaigns of destabilization that are against U.S. interests and those of its allies in the Middle East".

The order issued by Trump states: "The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928 and has evolved into a transnational network with branches across the Middle East and beyond. As per this order, its branches in Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt involve or facilitate and support acts of violence and destabilization campaigns that harm their regions, U.S. citizens, and U.S. interests".

It continues: "For example, following the October 7, 2023 attack in Israel, the military wing of the Lebanese branch of the Muslim Brotherhood collaborated with Hamas and Hezbollah and Palestinian factions to launch multiple rocket attacks targeting civilian and military sites within Israel. Moreover, a senior leader of the Egyptian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, on October 7, 2023, called for violent attacks on U.S. partners and interests. And for a long time, the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan have provided material support to the armed wing of Hamas."

He emphasized that "These activities pose a threat to the security of American civilians in the Levant and other parts of the Middle East, as well as to the security and stability of our partners in the region".
Trump explained that "U.S. policy is to collaborate with its regional partners to eliminate the capabilities and operations of the Muslim Brotherhood branches that are designated as foreign terrorist organizations.. and to deny those branches the resources, thereby ending any threat they might pose to U.S. citizens or to U.S. national security".

The order stipulates that the U.S. Secretaries of State and Treasury, after consulting with the Attorney General and the Director of National Intelligence, within 30 days, provide a "joint report" to Trump, via his Assistant for National Security Affairs, on designating any of the branches of the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations and as specially designated global terrorist entities.
Within 45 days of submitting the required report, "the Secretary of State or the Secretary of the Treasury, as appropriate, will take all suitable measures.. regarding the designation of any of the branches or subdivisions as foreign terrorist organizations and as specially designated global terrorist entities".

The Muslim Brotherhood is banned in several countries. Egypt designates the group as a "terrorist organization". In April (April), Jordan announced a ban on all activities of the Muslim Brotherhood, closing its headquarters and confiscating its properties.

In May (May), French President Emmanuel Macron ordered the government to come up with proposals to deal with the influence of "the Muslim Brotherhood" in France, against the backdrop of reports warning that the group poses "a threat to national cohesion" in France.
