Khaberni - The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that its air defenses shot down 10 drones heading to Moscow on Monday, following a day after Ukraine bombed a power station, resulting in heating outage in a town near the capital.
The ministry clarified in a statement that from 8 AM to 8 PM Moscow time (05:00 to 17:00 GMT), the air defenses shot down 50 Ukrainian drones in areas around Moscow, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk, as well as the Crimean Peninsula and over the waters of the Black Sea.
The Mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, said that emergency services are operating at the sites where the debris of drones heading to the capital fell.
An air raid conducted by Ukraine with drones on Sunday on the Shatura power plant, located 120 kilometers east of Moscow, forced authorities to activate backup power and deploy mobile heating systems in the town of 33,000 inhabitants where temperatures are approaching zero.
The local governor, Andrei Vorobyov, said on Monday that the plant has resumed its operations.
Parts of Ukraine have experienced frequent electricity and heating outages in recent weeks and months due to Russian attacks.
Ukraine has struck some of the energy and heating facilities in the Ukrainian regions controlled by Russian forces and in the Russian regions adjacent to Ukraine.
However, Kyiv has not yet caused significant damage to the power and heating stations that serve Moscow and its surrounding area, which has a population of over 22 million people.
