Khaberni - The New China News Agency (Xinhua) reported that President Xi Jinping told his American counterpart Donald Trump in a phone call on Monday that "Taiwan's return to China" is foundational to the international order established after World War II.

Xinhua quoted Xi as saying, "China and the United States once fought side by side against fascism and militarism, and they must now work together to protect the achievements of World War II."

A White House official confirmed that the presidents spoke by phone without revealing the details of the call.

China considers Taiwan part of its territory and does not rule out the use of force to reclaim it, but the island's government rejects Beijing's claim and maintains that only its people have the right to determine their future.

Beijing is facing its biggest diplomatic crisis in years with Tokyo after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said this month that any Chinese attack on Taiwan could lead to a military response from Japan.

The American and Chinese presidents met in South Korea on October 30 after months of trade tension due to Trump's tariff policies.

Since then, China has resumed purchasing American soybeans and stopped imposing extensive restrictions on rare earth exports, while the United States has reduced its tariffs on Chinese goods by 10%.

Xi affirmed that Sino-American relations have stabilized and improved since the meeting.

Xi told Trump, "The facts once again reveal that cooperation benefits both sides, while confrontation causes harm to both." He called for both countries to maintain the positive momentum in their relations and to expand cooperation.

The leaders also discussed the war in Ukraine, with Xi reiterating China's support for all peace efforts and urging all parties to narrow their differences.
