JordanianSyrian Agreement to Open Import and Export at the Beginning of the Year

Khaberni - Today in Damascus, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Engineer Yarub Al-Qudah, discussed with his counterpart, the Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry, Dr. Nidal Al-Sha'ar, enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries in various fields, activating inter-trade movements, and addressing any challenges faced.
During the meeting, which was attended by the Jordanian ambassador in Damascus and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Dana Al-Zoubi, along with officials from the Syrian side, Engineer Al-Qudah emphasized the need to expedite the necessary procedures to increase the volume of trade between the two countries and to enhance cooperation in various sectors such as industry, agriculture, energy, transportation, and incentivizing the private sector.
He added that there are many opportunities that can be utilized to expand the frameworks of economic partnership between Jordan and Syria in a way that serves the mutual interests, noting that Jordan has provided all possible forms of support to the Syrian brethren, particularly in meeting the Syrian market's needs for goods and facilitating the transit of Syrian goods and trucks through Jordanian territory, and assisting it in other areas.
He emphasized the importance of the measures taken by both sides to speed up trade exchange procedures, activate the joint free zone, increase its investment attractiveness, and the understanding on activating the free trade agreement previously signed between the two countries in a way that increases the volume of inter-trade, as well as the important role Jordan will play in the field of reconstructing Syria and the possibility of considering it as a logistical center for that.
Dr. Al-Sha'ar emphasized the importance of facilitating customs procedures and improving trade infrastructure to increase the efficiency of trade movement between the two countries and the need to enhance cooperation between the public and private sectors in Syria and Jordan, which benefits the national economies.
The two sides agreed to open channels for importing and exporting all materials between the countries based on the principle of reciprocal treatment starting at the beginning of the next year, which will enhance the volume of trade and provide greater opportunities for both the private and public sectors in both countries.
