Khaberni - A member of the Australian Senate belonging to the far-right wore a "burqa" in the Senate chamber today, Monday, in a political stunt that caused outrage among her colleagues and led to the suspension of the council sessions.
Pauline Hanson, leader of the anti-immigration "One Nation" party, entered the Senate wearing a black veil, causing clear shock among some Senate members and dissatisfaction among others.
Hanson insisted on her stance of refusing the president's request to remove the burqa, after stating that it was inappropriate to wear it in parliament.
It is noted that Hanson has been calling for years for a national ban on the burqa and other full-face coverings.
This is the second time Hanson has appeared in the Senate wearing the burqa, having previously done so for the first time in 2017.
One Green party senator described the stunt as "racist", while an independent colleague said that Hanson "does not respect the creed" of Australian Muslims.
