Khaberni - The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization "FAO", in collaboration with the Sustainable Scientific Vision Company in Madaba, conducted the final workshop for the activity "Community Participation and Awareness on Climate Change Adaptation", as part of the project "Building Capacity for Climate Change Adaptation through Water Use Efficiency Improvement in Agriculture", with participants representing the governorates of Madaba, Karak, Tafilah, and Ma'an, attended by Madaba Deputy Governor Rakan Al-Adwan and council member Mahmoud Al-Haisa.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness about climate change adaptation strategies in the four governorates, through training and involving the local community in the best suitable climate adaptation methods for each area.
Dr. Samia Akroush, FAO's Policy Reform and Education Specialist, presented an overview of the project's implementation stages over the past six months and its results.
Eyad Batarseh from the Sustainable Scientific Vision Company reviewed the field activities executed within the project and their impacts on the local communities.

Representatives from the four governorates discussed the climate challenges facing their areas, alongside proposals for feasible initiatives to enhance the capacity to adapt to climate change.
Project coordinator and Madaba Women's Committees Assembly Secretary Jaziya Al-Maayta highlighted the project's importance in supporting adaptation efforts, empowering women, and enhancing their role in facing the effects of climate change.

This workshop is part of an agreement signed by the "FAO" on March 27th with the Sustainable Scientific Vision for Engineering and Environment titled "Local Participation and Awareness Dissemination on Climate Change Adaptation in the Governorates of Madaba, Karak, Tafilah, and Ma'an", aiming to develop an integrated plan to increase civil society participation in climate adaptation efforts.

The agreement falls under the "Building Capacity for Climate Change Adaptation in Jordan Through Improved Water Use Efficiency in the Agricultural Sector (BRCCJ)" project, specifically under the pillar of expanding adaptation through policies and stakeholders from institutions, private sector, and civil society.
Over 500 participants attended training workshops targeting farmers, women-headed households, and municipal employees from 15 civil society organizations. They received training on the best climate adaptation methods suitable for each area.

This partnership reaffirms FAO's commitment to supporting sustainable development and increasing the local communities' capacity to face climate challenges. Currently, FAO is implementing the $33.25 million BRCCJ project, targeting four governorates in the Dead Sea Basin - Karak, Madaba, Tafilah, and Ma'an - most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and water stress.
