Khaberni - Media reports confirmed that Inter Milan has reopened the file to negotiate with Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, after the Aston Villa's goalkeeper name returned to dominate the list of candidates to protect the Italian club's den next season.
Transfer News Live account on Twitter mentioned that this move came amidst the absence of any progress regarding the extension of Swiss Jan Sommer’s contract, which made the management seriously search for alternatives in anticipation of any changes in the goalkeeper position.
It explained, "Sources close to the negotiations indicated that Inter Milan still sees Emiliano Martinez as the most suitable option to strengthen their back line, especially after the high levels he has shown with Villa and the Argentine national team, making him one of the most stable and influential goalkeepers in recent years."
Although the Italian club had made an official inquiry in 2023 to sign the best goalkeeper of the 2022 World Cup and was refused, the current situation might open the door for a new attempt in the upcoming transfer window.
On the other hand, Aston Villa does not seem ready to easily give up one of its key elements, especially since Martinez has become an essential part of the team's project and their technical director relies heavily on his experience and leadership presence. However, Inter's renewed interest, alongside the goalkeeper's potential desire to take on a new challenge in the Italian league, might reshape the scene if new official negotiations are reached this summer.
