Khaberni - On Sunday evening, the Chief of General Staff of the Israeli Army, Eyal Zamir, dismissed senior leaders for their role in the surveillance that led to the "Al-Aqsa Flood" operation on October 7, 2023.

As part of the decisions made this evening by the Chief of Staff, the commander of the operations division at the outbreak of the war, Reserve Major General Oded Basiuk, was dismissed from the reserve service.

Basiuk, who also held senior positions in the Ministry of Defense, had finished his position as the commander of the operations division in the Israeli Army last summer.

The head of the military intelligence at the time of the operation, Reserve Major General Aharon Haliva, was also dismissed from the reserve service by the Chief of Staff, during a phone call.

Haliva stated that he requested not to serve in the reserves, after he resigned his position and took full responsibility for his role in the failure, saying: "I requested not to serve in the reserves.. I took full responsibility and conducted investigations; I expect a government inquiry committee to be formed."

The Chief of Staff also decided that Major General Shlomi Binder, who was the commander of the operations brigade during the attack and is currently serving as the head of military intelligence, will only receive a commanding memo, and will not be discharged.

Upon his request, he will retire from the Israeli Army only when his current duties as head of military intelligence are concluded.

The Chief of Staff also decided that the former commander of the Southern Command, Major General Yaron Finkelman, who resigned from his position but continued serving, will be exempted from reserve service.

Additionally, the commander of the Gaza Division, Brigade Commander (Reserve) Avi Rosenfeld, and the then Northern Brigade commander in the Gaza Division, Colonel (Reserve) Haim Cohen, were also removed from reserve service.

The previous commander of the Gaza Division, Lieutenant Colonel A., will also be discharged from the Israeli Army, and the service of the former head of the operations brigade in the military intelligence directorate, Brigadier General J., will be terminated.

In this regard, the commander of Unit 8200 at the outbreak of the war, Brigadier General (Reserve) Yossi Shariel, was summoned to appear before the Chief of Staff on Sunday, but he did not attend due to scheduling constraints; however, the Chief of Staff contacted him by phone and informed him of the decision to dismiss him from the reserve service.

Furthermore, the commander of the Air Force, Major General Tomer Bar, received a commanding memo from the Chief of Staff in light of the conclusions from the Turjeman Committee, which included criticisms of the Air Force's readiness for ground threats, as well as the extensive use of Hamas's drones and flying parachutes, which were used to invade and destroy vital parts of the Israeli Army's monitoring and collection systems on the border during operation "Al-Aqsa Flood".
