Khaberni - The advisor and spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Yinal Barmawi, confirmed that all bakeries are obligated to adhere to the government-set prices for bread, and exceeding these prices is not allowed under any circumstances.

Barmawi added for "Khaberni" that the inspection tours of bakeries are continuous to ensure compliance with prices and the availability of bread, noting that bakery violations are minimal thanks to ongoing monitoring operations.

He mentioned that Jordan's stock of wheat and barley will increase before the end of the year from 1.7 million tons to 2.3 million tons, coinciding with the completion of new storage facilities in Qatraneh with a total capacity of 600,000 tons, which allows storing both wheat and barley for a period of 12 months for each.

Barmawi explained that the ministry adopts a consistent strategy to buy wheat and barley from multiple sources to ensure the preservation and stability of the national stock.

The Council of Ministers, in its session held on Sunday, chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, decided to extend the decision to fix bread prices until 31/12/2026, and to provide financial support to bakeries, noting that the expected support value for wheat (bread) for the year 2026 amounts to approximately 109 million dinars, out of 171 million dinars allocated for supporting wheat and barley crops.

The decision aims to maintain bread prices and prevent them from being affected by rising global wheat prices and production costs, in addition to continuing the support provided to the traditional bakeries, totaling 1,100 bakeries.

The decision is part of the government's approach to continuing support for strategic goods and in the context of enhancing the social safety network with its various provisions that were allocated in the 2026 budget project.

The cost per ton of wheat is 252 dinars, and it is sold to mills at a price of 139 dinars, where the government bears the support difference of 113 dinars per ton; due to fixing bread prices in addition to the monthly support provided to traditional bakeries to maintain their production costs.
