Khaberni - Benjamin Netanyahu's Prime Minister's Office announced today (Sunday) that the Israeli military targeted the "Hezbollah Chief of Staff" in an attack launched in "the heart of Beirut".
The office said in a statement, "A short time ago, the Israeli Defense Forces in the heart of Beirut attacked the Hezbollah Chief of Staff, who was leading the process of building the capabilities and rearming of the terrorist organization."
The statement added that Netanyahu ordered the attack based on a recommendation from the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff.
It emphasized that "Israel is determined to act to achieve its objectives everywhere and at all times."
Before that, the Israeli military announced targeting a senior Hezbollah member in Beirut while media reported that the strike occurred in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital.
The military spokesman for Arab media, Avichay Adraee, said in a statement via the platform (X) that "the Defense Forces a short time ago precisely targeted a prominent terrorist of the terrorist Hezbollah in Beirut," without further details.
The (Times of Israel) newspaper quoted unnamed Israeli officials saying that the target of the Israeli airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut was the senior Hezbollah leader Haitham Ali Tabtabai.
According to the newspaper, Tabtabai is considered the "actual Chief of General Staff" for Hezbollah, and the second man in the party after Secretary-General Naim Qasim.
The (National News Agency) official Lebanese media reported that "hostile aviation launched a raid on the southern suburbs of Beirut, causing injuries and significant damage."
It added that the raid targeted a residential apartment in one of the buildings in Haret Hreik and reported "injuries."
The raid also caused "significant damage" to surrounding vehicles and buildings.
According to the agency, two missiles were fired towards the targeted building on the main street in Haret Hreik. Ambulance arrived at the site and worked on transporting the injured.
