Khaberni - The German Heart Foundation emphasized the importance of heart patients informing their dentist about their heart conditions or past strokes, as these serious medical conditions affect the choice of appropriate treatment method.
The foundation explained that many dental anesthesia drugs contain "adrenaline," thus stimulating the heart. This might cause an issue for individuals with heart rhythm disorders. In such cases, a different anesthetic should be used.
The Impact of Medications
Medications may have both direct and indirect effects on dental treatment; for instance, blood thinners increase the likelihood of bleeding. This is important even during dental cleaning at the clinic, and some medications may have side effects like dry mouth.
Most patients do not need antibiotics, even in complex treatments and major dental procedures.
However, antibiotics can be beneficial for individuals who have undergone heart valve replacement surgery or have infective endocarditis (inflammation of the inner lining of the heart) to prevent worsening of the inflammation.
