Khaberni - The Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply announced the start of its surveillance campaign coinciding with the season of special promotions and discounts during this period known as "Black Friday," as part of its continuous commitment to enhance the efficiency of market surveillance mechanisms, protect consumers, and ensure a safe and transparent shopping environment.
The spokesperson for the ministry, Yanal Barmawi, told the Jordanian News Agency (Petra) that the campaign is part of the ministry's strategy aimed at enhancing market trust and addressing misleading commercial practices, including a comprehensive suite of awareness, service, and surveillance activities.
He noted that since the beginning of the year, the ministry has issued 445 approvals for promotional campaigns to ensure compliance with laws and protect participant rights, and supervised prize draw events for these campaigns to enhance transparency and integrity.
On the surveillance front, since the beginning of the year, the ministry has conducted 8,200 surveillance tours resulting in 131,000 visits to commercial establishments, including 750 dedicated auditing rounds directly focusing on the advertised offers and discounts, which led to issuing 7,100 violations, including 320 related to fictitious offers and discounts.
Since the beginning of the year, it has received 906 consumer complaints, resulting in 333 violations, including 75 complaints about fictitious advertisements and fictitious discounts, 31 of which were found to be violating, and all complaints were resolved and closed at a 100 percent rate.
In terms of the awareness aspects this year, for spreading awareness about merchants' and consumers' rights and duties, Barmawi stated that the ministry held 8 awareness workshops in 7 governorates in cooperation with the Jordan Chamber of Commerce and local commerce chambers, sent 156,000 awareness text messages, and published many awareness publications on the ministry's website and social media.
Barmawi renewed the ministry's call to consumers to be active partners in the surveillance process and a part of the positive change by not hesitating to submit complaints about market practices and commercial misconduct through the complaint hotline (065629045) or WhatsApp (0797527832).
