Khaberni - Professor Yekaterina Polyakova, a cardiovascular disease specialist, reported that smokers are 38 percent more likely to develop metabolic syndrome than non-smokers.

She clarified that metabolic syndrome includes disorders in the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats and high blood pressure, emphasizing that smoking is an independent factor contributing to these disorders.

She added that smokers willing to quit can be supported by using alternative nicotine delivery means during the transitional phase, but the ultimate goal should be complete cessation from all forms of smoking and nicotine-containing products.

She insisted that tobacco smoke contains more than 7000 harmful substances, making full cessation essential for cardiovascular health.
