Khaberni - The Prisoners' Media Office on Saturday charged the Israeli Prison Administration with full responsibility for the life and safety of Ahmad Saadat, the Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, prisoner, urging the International Committee of the Red Cross and international human rights organizations to intervene immediately to stop the physical and psychological violations he is subjected to.
The office stated in a press release that Saadat (72 years) suffers from health deterioration and significant weight loss due to repeated physical and psychological attacks in Israeli prisons.
It added that Saadat was subjected to physical and psychological attacks inside Janot (south) prison isolation, to which he was recently transferred from the isolation in Majdo prison.
It continued that upon his arrival at Janot Prison, Saadat was brutally beaten by Israeli repression units.
The statement relayed testimony documenting that Saadat suffered in "Majdo" isolation from repeated raids on his cell and degrading searches, alongside a significant decline in his health and a clear weight loss, as well as being subjected to direct physical assault several times as part of a vengeful policy targeting his symbolism and status.
The statement relayed from Saadat's family that he had previously suffered from a skin disease (scabies), and was subjected to harsh treatment conditions whereby he was assaulted in March during his transfer from Remon to Majdo, and detained in the prison yard for hours while handcuffed and his head covered.
It affirmed that what Saadat is subjected to is a complete crime and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, reflecting the occupier's intent to slowly liquidate the symbols of the national movement inside prisons under official cover.
Ahmad Saadat has been the Secretary-General of the Front since 2001 and has been detained in Israeli prisons since 2006, serving a 30-year sentence related to the assassination of Israeli Minister of Tourism Rehavam Ze'evi by the Front in 2001.
The Front is the second largest faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization after Fatah, and was established on December 11, 1967 as an extension of the Palestinian branch of the Arab Nationalist Movement, and was founded by a group of the movement's leaders and some organizations that were prevalent at the time, most notably George Habash, Abu Ali Mustafa, and Wadih Haddad.
