Khaberni - The Minister of Transport, Dr. Nidal Al-Qatamin, met in his office with the head of the Mechanics and Transport Workers Union, Mahmoud Al-Maaytah, in the presence of the Director General of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority, Engineer Riyad Al-Kharabsheh, where discussions took place on a number of issues related to the working conditions of drivers and the mechanisms to enhance the work environment in the transportation sector, aimed at ensuring sector sustainability and providing a decent life for its workers.
During the meeting, Al-Qatamin listened to the challenges faced by drivers, particularly those of class six, and the consequent professional and living burdens that require practical and collaborative treatments.
The Minister of Transport emphasized the need to move forward in including the drivers within the social security system according to their income nature, which contributes to enhancing the social protection of this crucial category in the public transport system. He also stressed the importance of pushing forward inclusivity files, particularly for public drivers including yellow taxi vehicles, due to its direct impact on improving the professional environment and ensuring stability for workers in this vital sector.
The meeting focused on several issues related to enhancing the role of drivers and empowering them, developing work mechanisms, and improving the services provided to them, including simplifying work procedures and promoting training and professional support opportunities, aiming for a more efficient and quality transport system.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Al-Qatamin confirmed that the ministry is continuing to work with various partners to address challenges and provide a supportive environment for drivers and transport workers, to uplift this vital sector and enhance its role in serving citizens and the national economy.
