Ministry of Water Reducing Water Loss by 44 in Jordan

Khaberni - The Ministry of Water and Irrigation stated that it has reduced water loss during the third quarter of this year by 4.4%, bringing the water loss rate in all regions of the kingdom to 40.9% compared to the third quarter of 2024 which was (45.3%), in line with the National Water Strategy 2023-2040.

The Ministry explained in a statement that this comes as part of a strategy to reduce water loss through intensified efforts to reduce water loss and the introduction of modern technology in the distribution, management, and control of water sources, digital transformation, and engaging the private sector in maintenance operations, meter reading, and billing processes which have achieved a reading accuracy of 98%, and increased the number of maintenance teams in all regions of the kingdom, and replaced one million malfunctioning water meters, including half a million meters in our water areas.

Furthermore, intensifying campaigns to control violations, which reached during 2025 where more than 11,519 assaults on main lines were detected and saved 10.8 million cubic meters in the kingdom during the third quarter of 2025, and saved about 31.4 million cubic meters during the current year, reflected on improving water supply to citizens in all areas and also transitioning to natural flow across various regions.

The Ministry confirmed that this is considered a major national achievement that will greatly reflect on improving water services in all regions of the kingdom.

The Ministry indicated that water loss is a top priority in the water sector through enhancing partnership with the local private sector, which as the first experience at the regional level contributed to the cumulative reduction of water loss from the beginning of the year until the end of the third quarter of 2025 by 5.3% compared to the same period last year 2024.

The Ministry clarified that the water loss reduction strategy which started in 2021 has successfully reduced annual water loss from 52.5% in 2021/2022 by 2% annually, noting that the water loss reduction projects included restructuring the distribution areas and dividing main areas into manageable subareas, managing pressures within them, and utilizing modern technologies such as ERP, Cash Desk, X7 programs, and launching the Ministry of Water and Irrigation application which provided advanced electronic services for managing all citizen’s feedback and improved water supply operations.
