Khaberni - The General Manager of the Jordanian Airport Management Company, Ahmad Al-Azzam, stated that the opening date of Amman Civil Airport will be within days.
Al-Azzam confirmed in statements to "Al-Mamlaka" channel that the airport management company is awaiting the civil aviation authority's license after completing all safety and modernization requirements at the airport.
Al-Azzam explained that Amman Civil Airport would serve as a secondary (auxiliary) to Queen Alia International Airport, considering it a civil airport that would reduce the congestion of aircraft movement and passengers through Queen Alia airport.
Al-Azzam said that the planes received by Amman Civil Airport will be of medium size (maximum 200 passengers) with an approximate weight (80 tons), indicating that planes of this size belong to low-cost tourist aviation.
He noted that medium-sized aircraft travel to regions in the Middle East and Europe, while confirming that the operating costs at Amman Airport will be lower for the operating airlines.
Al-Azzam revealed ongoing communication by the airport management with low-cost carriers such as Wizz Air, Ryanair, Flynas, Air Cairo, and others; aiming to target and welcome them at Amman Civil Airport.
He anticipated that the airport would receive planes from these companies in the first months of the beginning of next year after ending their scheduled commitments with Queen Alia International Airport.
He confirmed that the operation of Amman Civil Airport would contribute to reducing tourism costs and increasing tourist influx.
Al-Azzam concluded by saying that the airport management coordinated with the Amman Municipality and the Traffic Management to prepare a suitable traffic environment around the airport and facilitate the flow of traffic in the area.
Prime Minister Jafar Hassan previously said that the opening of Amman Civil Airport in Marka after a years-long hiatus enhances economic and tourism opportunities for Amman and the kingdom in general.
