Khaberni - The Italian competition authority said on Friday that it had closed an investigation it opened last year concerning potentially unfair business practices by Google in the use of personal data.

The authority's decision to close the investigation came after the online search giant adopted corrective measures for its practices, according to "Reuters".

In July 2024, the authority opened an investigation, stating that Google's request sent to its users to obtain their consent to connect with its services "could constitute a misleading and aggressive commercial practice," and that the information provided by the company was "incomplete and misleading".

The Italian antitrust agency said in a statement that after the investigation, Google will change its consent request "by providing clearer and more accurate information about the consequences of consenting to the use of personal data".

Google will also provide clearer and more precise information about the scope and extent of its services that may involve consent for merging and reciprocal use of personal data.
