Khaberni - The Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Samirat, stated on Friday that the Jordanian-Syrian telecommunications and technology forum held in Damascus reflects the Jordanian political will to open up to Syria and support the efforts led by Syrians in reconstruction.
Samirat added, in his statements to the "Al-Mamlaka" channel, that Jordan agreed with Syria to set up the forum with the aim of allowing Jordanian private companies to contribute to these efforts, especially in the fields of telecommunications, information technology, and digital transformation in Syria.
He mentioned that Jordan's role in this area through Jordanian private companies is effectively influential at both local and regional levels, noting that these companies have significantly contributed to mapping the digital transformation in Jordan and developing digital services. The geographical proximity between Jordan and Syria provides an ideal opportunity for Jordanian private companies to provide support and assistance in reconstruction efforts.
He confirmed that there is openness from the Syrian side to strengthen relations with Jordan, explaining that several aspects of the plans have already begun to be implemented, such as providing Syria with high-capacity internet services through the port of Aqaba, in addition to the use of financial technologies, which some Jordanian companies have started forming partnerships with the Syrian side to develop this sector.
Samirat pointed out that Jordan is participating in the forum through 80 Jordanian companies, praising the Jordanian government's facilitation for the private sector in exploring business opportunities in Syria.
He explained that there are many opportunities in Syria that require support from the private sector, particularly in the sectors of telecommunications, fixed internet, and many tenders offered by the Syrian government.
Samirat emphasized that the vision of economic modernization, which the government is aiming to achieve, aims to empower the Jordanian private sector to compete in global markets and open new markets, thereby creating local jobs through expansion in export markets, including the Syrian market.
The Jordanian-Syrian telecommunications and information technology forum, organized by the Information Technology and Communications Companies Association in Jordan "Intaj", in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and the Syrian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, with wide participation exceeding 200 participants from Jordanian and Syrian companies, was launched today in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
