Minor jaw pain ends tragically with the amputation of a girls hands and feet

Khaberni - Mild jaw and neck pain tragically transformed the life of a Canadian woman after it evolved into a serious blood infection, leading to the amputation of all four limbs.

Jane Hailey, 41 years old, from Alberta, Canada, was diagnosed with streptococcal throat infection and received a full course of antibiotics for between 7 and 10 days. She felt a natural improvement afterwards, however, days later she began to experience pain in her jaw, cheek, and the left side of her neck. She suspected these were symptoms of a transient infection or just a glandular swelling, before she contacted the medical advisory line, where she was immediately instructed to call for an ambulance, according to British newspaper "The Sun".

Jane was taken to the hospital where her blood pressure and heart rate sharply decreased, and she was put into a medical coma in the intensive care unit.

After examinations, the doctors discovered she was infected with Group A Streptococcus, which had developed into toxic shock syndrome, a rare but extremely dangerous condition that occurs when bacteria release toxins into the bloodstream, leading to a destructive inflammatory response that may cause organ failure or death.

Due to extensive tissue damage and the risk of multiple organ failure, the doctors informed Jane of the necessity to amputate her four limbs to save her life.

Shocking images displayed her hands and feet completely blackened due to tissue death, turning into a dark, charred color, with cracked skin and what Jane described as "deep pits".

Jane stated, "It was a choice between my life and my limbs, and the doctors chose my life, and I am grateful for that, as I am still alive."

She added that the deterioration was very rapid, which is why Jane was air-lifted to another hospital, where she underwent hand amputation, then a week and a half later her legs were amputated below the knee, before she had a third surgery to reattach nerves to her muscles in preparation for future prosthetic limbs.

She described her suffering, saying: "I was experiencing unbearable pain, the dead skin was separating, and the sole of my foot was black as if it were a shoe sole. It started with a small hole then grew until the dead skin moved when I bent my foot."
