Khaberni - The US judicial authorities have charged a Democratic representative from Florida with embezzling $5 million from the federal disaster fund, noting that she used the amount to fund her 2021 election campaign.
A statement from the US Attorney's Office stated that Representative Sheila Cherfilus McCormick - a Democrat elected from South Florida - is accused of collaborating with her brother and others to retain an excess amount of $5 million that her family-owned healthcare company received against a vaccination employment contract for the "COVID-19" pandemic.
The statement mentioned that the amount - sourced from the "Federal Emergency Management Agency" - mistakenly reached the family company's accounts in July 2021.
It is suspected that the 46-year-old Democrat subsequently laundered these ill-gotten gains and converted them into campaign contributions.
This was done "by transferring funds from the COVID-19 contract funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to friends and relatives who subsequently donated to the campaign as though they were using their own money," according to federal prosecutors.
If convicted, Cherfilus McCormick faces a maximum sentence of 53 years in prison.
